On Saturday 13th September, Chard Hockey Club held a tournament in memory of long serving member Kevin Mooney who died suddenly just before the end of last season.
Some forty players, a mixture of current and former members, took part in teams led by Kev's daughter Charlotte, Men's 1st team captain Nathan Johnson and Kev's 2nd team colleague Steve Dare. A large number of other Club members and former players also supported from the side lines.
Appropriately, it was Charlotte's team which won the tournament and the trophy which went with it, drawing 1-1 with Nathan's team and prevailing 2-0 over Steve's, with the latter two sides playing out a 0-0 draw in a downpour which contrasted dramatically with the sunshine and clear blue skies in the first two matches had taken place.
A post tournament barbecue and social was hosted by Tom Eames, the barn providing welcome shelter following the sudden change of weather conditions.
Match fees were waived, with the club covering the cost of pitch hire, but donations were taken for the British Heart Foundation with profits from the barbecue going to the same cause.
