Weymouth Sunday Ladies. 3. Chard Sunday Ladies. 4
As the score line would suggest, this was an evenly matched, close contest. Chard gelled well as a team with young players Lola Saxby, Daisy Russell, Evelyn Churchill and Holly Thomson fitting seamlessly into the squad. A goal from Izzy Applegate broke the deadlock between the two sides and Chard then bombarded the Weymouth defense. A superbly converted short corner from Heidi Warren gave them a 2-0 lead at halftime. The home team upped their game and managed to pull a goal back, requiring Chard's defensive lineup of Ali Long, Jo Gibbins, Kerrie Oaten and Charlie Carver-Bale to remain solid to maintain the lead. Julie Saxby steadied the midfield and when a ball came to Ros Clemmans on the edge of the D she shot cleanly to score Chards 3rd goal. End to end hockey with good passing from Chards midfield and Rachel Derham and Sue Stoker pushing forward meant Chard got a 4th after Sophie Gibbons put way a goalmouth scuffle. Weymouth got a further goal but ran out of time to claw back the deficit, giving Chard a gratifying win.
