Chard Sunday Ladies. 2. Honiton Hornets Ladies. 1
Strong opposition gave the Sunday team a tough game to start the new year with. From the start Chard's team work showed through with Sue Applegate switching positions through out the team as needed. Julie Saxsby, Rachel Derham, Heidi Warren and Jade Dunning, provided midfield distribution and support to both defence and to forwards Sophie Gibbins, Isobel Applegate and Sue Stoker. Defenders Jo Gibbins, Hatty Withers and Kerry Oaten were solid at the back and when Honiton did break through Charlie Carver-Bale pulled off some stunning saves to keep the home side in the mix. Chard eventually broke the deadlock when determination and persistence resulted in a well placed goal from Heidi Warren. Honiton fought back and won a penalty which was converted to bring the score to 1-1. The second half saw more end to end stuff and Chard were rewarded with the winning goal when Sophie Gibbins ran into the area and slotted the ball into goal from a seemingly impossible angle. Thanks go to Chris Long and Alan Cheffey for umpiring.
