Chard Sunday Ladies. 6. Blandford and Sturminster Sunday Ladies. 3

Always a tough opposition, Chard looked forward to this game against Blandford and Sturminster. Chard came out strong and were rewarded with an early goal from Sophie Gibbins. Strong and determined midfield play from Crocus Douglas, Julie Saxsby, Rachel Derham and Jade Dunning allowed the home side to attack and they went 3 up when Ros Clemmans got two goals in quick succession. Blandford fought back and scored a deserved goal before Chard put away a fourth from Izzy Applegate. The second half saw the away team come out with all guns blazing and they quickly converted 2 goals to bring the score to 4-3. It took all of Chards grit to hold Blandford at bay and defenders Hattie Withers, Jo Gibbins and Kerry Oaten certainly had to be on their A game when they were bombarded with multiple short corners. Charlie Carver-Bale was also outstanding in goal. Chard regained momentum and put the game beyond reach with two final goals from Sophie Gibbins and Sue Stoker.
