With Spring in the air, there was a spring in the step of the men’s 2nd team as they pitched up at Bridport.
What a phenomenal performance from the entire team. Although we are well accustomed to seeing energy and enthusiasm as the team run their socks off, this was a masterclass in attacking the opposition’s D with aggressive intent and panache… Confidence holding up the ball, well-strung passes and through balls, and a multitude of shots being fired at goal.
At the back, Tony, Elliot, Arthur and Rich were solid as ever. We also witnessed Tom making forays to the far end to support the attack, returning with a nose bleed from the altitude. Ben S was an absolute linchpin in midfield, distributing ball. Luc and Oscar were tremendous ball-winners, releasing Ollie and Isaac on scorching runs up the wings. Archie was the point man of attack, frequently defeating the defenders with his silky skills. Oscar’s well-drilled strategy of a W press also helped to ensure that Bridport struggled to build attacks from the back.
Our goals came from Ben - one of many ferocious shots on target, Luc pounced on the opportunity of a loose ball to fire one in with surgical precision, and Archie who deftly slipped one under the keeper. (Ben and Isaac also had seemingly tremendous goals disallowed).
The final score was 3-1. As Tom enthused after the game, this was a great life lesson in perseverance, determination and great spirit eventually resulting in success.
Congratulations to everyone for a thoroughly well-deserved win… and in particular to Archie, as Man of the Match.
