Final Score: Chard 3 – 0 Tiverton White Eagles
Scorers: Summer, Katie, Izzy
Chard Ladies 1st XI travelled away to Tiverton this weekend to face the Tiverton White Eagles 2nd XI — a fixture that never fails to deliver plenty of drama (and cards!).
Chard started brightly, pressing high and moving the ball confidently through midfield. Their early dominance was rewarded when Summer carried the ball into the D and calmly pushed it past the keeper to give Chard a deserved lead.
However, the goal sparked a feisty spell of play. Following Summer’s determined challenges, the umpires were kept busy with a flurry of cards: a green for EJ, and yellow cards for both Charlotte and Ruby. The opposition also saw green as tempers flared.
Despite being reduced to just eight players at one stage, Chard’s defence stood firm under pressure, successfully seeing off three consecutive short corners before the break — including a crucial save from keeper Hattie to preserve the 1–0 lead at half-time.
Starting the second half with only nine on the pitch as Charlotte and Ruby served their time, Chard showed tremendous resilience and organisation. Once back to full strength, they reasserted control and were rewarded when Katie’s powerful strike — following a surging J run — smashed into the backboard for 2–0.
Chard pushed for more in the closing minutes, creating a series of chances and forcing the Tiverton keeper into action. Persistence paid off when super sub Izzy — on the post once again — slotted home the rebound for her second goal in as many games, sealing a confident 3–0 victory for the visitors.
A gritty, disciplined team performance from Chard, marked by defensive determination, attacking flair, and just the right amount of chaos to make it a classic Tiverton encounter.
