Despite the arrival of Storm Amy sweeping across the South West, there was no stopping Captain Amy and the Chard Ladies as they braved the blustery conditions to take on North Devon Ladies 2s. If anything, it was Amy’s storm that made the real impact on the pitch!
Chard started strong, with early pressure rewarded when Amy opened the scoring from a well-worked penalty corner, calmly slotting the ball past the keeper to make it 1–0. The second came soon after another penalty corner routine that saw Amy’s strike rebound into the path of Summer, who reacted quickly to double the lead.
Solid defensive work from the back line and some sharp saves from keeper Hannah kept North Devon at bay, ensuring Chard went into the break with a deserved 2–0 advantage.
The second half began just as brightly. Katie made a surging run down the left, her cross-turned-shot rebounding into the path of Izzy, who made no mistake in firing home for 3–0. However, North Devon weren’t done yet — two one-on-one chances saw their forwards find a way past keeper Hannah, bringing the score to a tense 3–2.
Chard steadied themselves and sealed the victory with a well-crafted fourth goal. A pinpoint cross from Amy found Katie in the D, whose strike was expertly deflected on the post by Kerryn to restore a two-goal cushion and secure a well-earned 4–2 win.
A fantastic team effort from start to finish — solid defending, clinical finishing, and great composure under pressure.
? Storm Amy may have raged across Devon, but it was Captain Amy who truly blew the hosts away!
