Chard Ladies 2s brought their season to a close with a fiercely competitive home fixture against Tiverton White Eagles 2s, played under glorious sunshine.
It proved to be one of the strongest performances from Chard all season, with the team showcasing excellent linking play and fluid passing. Time and again, the ball was worked confidently from defence through the midfield and into attack, highlighting the side’s growing cohesion and composure.
At the back, the defensive unit of Frankie, Kate, Verity and Ruby were outstanding. Their tackling was precise and well-timed, breaking down Tiverton’s attacks and maintaining a solid structure throughout. At both ends of the pitch the goalkeepers were in fine form, pulling off a series of crucial saves to keep the game goalless.
Chard created several promising chances, with Summer particularly unlucky not to get on the scoresheet after being denied one-on-one with the keeper on three separate occasions, each time ending up on the turf under pressure.
The closest Chard came to breaking the deadlock followed a brilliant attacking move. Izzie drove forward on a strong run before slipping the ball to Summer in the D, who then found Maisie wide. Maisie’s effort looked destined for goal, only for Tiverton’s keeper to get just enough on it to deflect the ball narrowly past the post.
As the match wore on, tensions rose with both sides growing frustrated. Despite the heated moments, Chard maintained their discipline and focus.
In the end, the match finished 0–0, but it was a performance full of quality, determination and teamwork—an encouraging way for Chard Ladies 2s to round off their season.
Man of the match deservedly went to Kate for a stellar performance in centre defence.
