Scorching sunshine and a sizzling Saturday start set the scene as Chard Ladies 2 took to the pitch against Taunton Vale 4s. Having started the week with three substitutes but dwindling down to the bare eleven by match day the team knew it was going to be a tough game and that every player would need to dig deep.
From the outset, Vale showed themselves to be well structured and organised, applying consistent pressure on the Chard defensive line. Despite the relentless attacks, Chard’s defence worked tirelessly, putting in strong tackles and holding their shape under pressure. However, Vale capitalised on key positions in the circle and managed to convert their chances, scoring three goals in the first half
The second half followed a similar pattern, with Vale continuing to press forward effectively and adding four more goals to their tally. Even so, the score line did not reflect the full story of Chard’s effort and growing cohesion on the pitch.
Chard showed promising passages of play throughout the match, linking up well and making several lovely runs down the pitch with cohesive play. Their attacking efforts created opportunities, but strong saves from the Vale goalkeeper prevented Chard from adding a goal of their own to the score line.
Despite the challenging circumstances, the team demonstrated resilience and commitment until the final whistle.
Player of the Match goes to Sian who put in a phenomenal performance. Battling on despite injury, she made several crucial tackles and even produced a vital goal-line save embodying the team’s determination and fighting spirit.
