Chard Ladies 1s delivered a dominant performance at Holyrood School, securing a convincing 4–1 victory over Taunton Vale 4s and maintaining their unbeaten league run with just one game remaining.
The league champions started on the front foot, quickly asserting control with two well-worked goals in the first half. The opener came from a brilliant run by Misha Taylor, who carried the ball through midfield before finding Katie Fear on the P spot, where she calmly slotted home. The second followed soon after, with Kerryn Mullis picking out Katie in space; she drove forward confidently and finished neatly into the corner.
Despite the early setback, Vale responded well and pushed hard for a way back into the game. However, they were repeatedly denied by outstanding goalkeeping from Hattie Thorne, supported by a solid defensive line of EJ Hines, Lois Butcher, Jade Dunning, and Ruby Parris. The remainder of the first half remained competitive, with both sides battling hard.
Vale came out strongly after the break, applying sustained pressure and eventually finding a goal through a well-executed move to the back post, where their attacker was perfectly placed to finish.
Chard responded in style. Kerryn Mullis produced a moment of individual brilliance, picking up the ball on the halfway line, lifting it over a defender’s stick, and racing through one-on-one with the keeper. Showing great composure, she rounded the keeper and slotted the ball into the net to restore Chard’s two-goal advantage.
Buoyed by this goal, Chard continued to press, and their fourth came following a goalmouth scramble. The ball fell kindly to Charlotte Mooney, who reacted quickest to push it over the line and seal the win.
The final whistle confirmed a 4–1 victory, keeping Chard unbeaten in the league as they head into their final fixture.
Player of the Match: Kerryn Mullis – for a superb solo goal and all-round performance.
Dick of the Day: Jade Dunning – for spending more time jumping around the pitch than playing… possibly auditioning for the Grand National!
